Charlie Kirk Assassination

Last Wednesday, Sept. 10th, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a college appearance at Utah Valley University. Kirk was best known for conservative activism and his self-founded organization, Turning Point USA, and his killing has sparked responses surrounding the right to free speech as well as political violence from Democrats and Republicans alike. As of right now, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been taken into custody as the suspect of the assassination.


77th Primetime Emmy Awards

The Emmys took place Sunday night at Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater. Big winners included the highly-praised Netflix series Adolescence, which swept most of the limited series awards with a standout moment for star Owen Cooper, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series became the youngest male Emmy winner at just 15; The Studio, which took home 13 of the 23 awards it was nominated for and set a new record for the most number of Emmy wins in a first season; and The Pitt, which received the Outstanding Drama Series award, with Noah Wyles accepting the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series.


Ukrainian Drones Strike Russian Oil Refinery

On Sunday, the Russian government reported that their Kirishi refinery, one of the country’s largest oil refineries, was attacked in an overnight Ukrainian drone strike. While exact consequences of the attack are unknown, the pattern of attacks on oil refineries during the war in the past has culminated in Russia’s pause on gasoline exports until Sept. 30th. This attack follows the escalation in the Russo-Ukraine War last Wednesday when Russian drones entered Polish airspace, forcing NATO intervention in shooting down the drones.
